Ngc 891 is an edge on spiral galaxy located in the constellation Andromeda. It was discovered in 1784 by William Herschel. This galaxy lies between 10 and 30 million light years from our Milky Way. Infrared observations of this galaxy suggest that it may be a barred (Hubble type SBb) spiral galaxy, but its orientation prevents us from seeing the  bar in visible light observations. It has a visual brightness of 10.0 and can be seen with moderate sized telescopes from dark sky locations.
